2016 Gold Rush Futurity Contenders

Being a closer in a large field is always a dicey proposition – especially for a two year-old, but Texas Chrome got an ideal setup in the 2015 Gold Rush Futurity after 2/1 shot Dubdubwatson and 5/2 choice R Dub disputed the early pace for the entire length of the backstretch. Dubdubwatson separated around the far turn with Texas Chrome still well behind, but a wide turn and leg weariness from the early fractions began to take its toll on the former in the stretch.

As Dubdubwatson began shortening stride, Texas Chrome began gather himself for a closing bid under DeShawn Parker with a little more than a furlong remaining. The strapping son of Grasshopper ran a bit greenly through the lane, but passed the tiring pacesetter in hand to win by 2 1/2 lengths. Dubdubwatson finished 9 1/2 lengths ahead of third-place finisher, Let the Boy Sing.

Did you know?

In 2011, Chips All In made his Arapahoe debut a winning one with an impressive victory as the favorite. It was on to bigger things for the bay son of North Light as he went on to win graded stakes races up and down the West Coast as well as participate in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) in 2013. His success is a further proof of the growing and thriving racing product at Arapahoe Park.

Another noteworthy participant is Get Happy Mister, an extremely popular Colorado-bred who has won ten of his thirteen starts and is undefeated in his home state. After three victories at Arapahoe as a juvenile, he capped off his season with a romp over eleven rivals in the Gold Rush in 2012. He went on the following season to win at Oaklawn Park.
