Three Year-Old Turfers Battle in Toronto Cup Stakes

Category : News - Sat 25/07/2015 - 19:00 EDT

5/2 morning line favorite, Flashaway, will break from the outside post for trainer Mark Casse after finishing second in the Charlie Barley Stakes July 4. The son of Eskendereya has just a maiden win to his credit, but has tried top company, finishing fourth in the Grade 3 Grey Stakes and sixth in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes in 2014 as a juvenile. In Flashaway’s other start this year, he finished third in an allowance race following a six month layoff. Veteran Woodbine pilot, Patrick Husbands, will take the mount.

Clemont runner has live look

Bettors must respect every turf runner hailing from the Chistophe Clement barn, and Indebted (3/1), has the look of an improving colt after breaking through with an allowance win July 11 at Belmont in his last start. Prior to that effort, the son of Malibu Moon finished second in a pair of allowance races at Churchill Downs. In five career starts, Indebted has two wins and has not finished worse than third. Turf specialist, Julien Leparoux gets the call from Clement.

Quirky runner goes for stakes repeat

Samuel Dechamplain emerged from the claiming ranks to upset Flashaway in the Charlie Barley Stakes  last out. The Michael Doyle-trainee has a knack for running well in big races, also finishing second in the Grade 2 Summer Stakes last September at Woodbine. Emma Jayne Wilson will be aboard the son of Henrythenavigator breaking from the rail.
