On Friday at Fair Grounds, the featured race is the $50,000 Buddy Diliberto Memorial Stakes. Scheduled to be run at about a mile and a sixteenth on the turf, the race has drawn a field of nine colts and geldings.
Gentleman’s Kitten has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 for trainer Michael Maker. Bred and owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, the four-year-old son of their stallion Kitten’s Joy has won five of his fifteen lifetime starts with two of those wins coming this year. He is trying to rebound after finishing eighth in the River City (G3) and he has been training steadily since then. James Graham will be aboard and they will break from the rail.
Grand Contender making turf debut
Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is Grand Contender for trainer Tom Amoss. The six-year-old gelding has been on the board in seven of his eight starts this year and earned back to back graded stakes victories in the spring in the Texas Mile (G3) and Lone Star Park Handicap (G3). He was last seen finishing third in the Delta Mile and will be making his first career start on turf. Franciso Torres will be in the irons and they will break from post six.
Hard-knocking Bim Bam trying to return to form
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is the veteran Bim Bam for trainer Ron Moquett. A seven-year-old son of Deputy Wild Cat, he has won three times this year and has improved his lifetime record to nine victories from 47 starts. He is trying to improve after a pair of average efforts against allowance company in Kentucky but did have three consecutive wins over the summer. He will have Miguel Mena aboard from post three.
