Calgary Cat is the even money favorite on the morning line for trainer Kevin Attard after winning the Grade 2 Kennedy Road Stakes at Woodbine in November and making a successful seasonal debut by winning the Jacques Cartier Stakes April 26 – a layoff of five months and three days. Calgary Cat, a five year-old chestnut gelded son of Cowtown Cat, has won 8 of 16 career starts for earnings of $483,599 and is a multiple graded stakes winner.

Za Approval boasts back class

The hard-knocking Za Approval (3/1), a seven year-old Ghostzapper gelding, will try a new surface after running almost exclusively on grass over his 27-race career. The $1.2 million earner has competed admirably at the highest level of racing including a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Mile in 2013. Trained by Mark Casse, jockey Patrick Husbands gets the call breaking from post four.

Pender Harbor makes two millionaires

Another seven year-old gelding Pender Harbor (4/1) could make his presence felt after posting a runner-up finish in the Grade 2 Valedictory Stakes December 7 at Woodbine, but will have to overcome some racing rust. A winner of 11 races in 34 career starts, Pender Harbor has earned over $1.6 million in his career.
