Full Field of Twelve Ready for $85,000 Brickyard Stakes
On Wednesday at Indiana Grand Racecourse, state-bred colts and geldings will take center stage in the 18th running of the $85,000 Brickyard Stakes. The six-furlong contest has drawn a full field of twelve with two additional competitors waiting on the also-eligible list.
Topping the field at morning line odds of 3-1 is Success is Racing for trainer Kim Hammond. The four-year-old gelding will break from post eight with regular rider Ben Creed aboard. Bred in Indiana and sired by Major Success, he has won six of his sixteen total starts, three of which have come this year. He was last seen finishing second against open company in an optional claiming race and won against state-bred competition two starts back.
Pico Suave going for two wins in a row
Second choice at odds of 9-2 is Pico Suave, a homebred for Just for Fun Stable. The six-year-old gelded son of Pico Central is trained by Barbara McBride and will have Malcom Franklin back aboard after the pair won a state-bred allowance race last time out. He has one victory from five starts this year and is an eight-time winner. He was eleventh in the Brickyard Stakes in 2013. Pico Suave will break from post position two.
Prince of Time back to defend title
Also in the field is the at odds of 10-1 is Prince of Time. Trained by Robert Gorham, the five-year-old son of Invisible Ink is attempting to win back to back editions of the Brickyard Stakes and earn his first victory of the year. Regular rider Fernando De La Cruz will be aboard and the pair will break from post position eleven. A multiple stakes winner, Prince of Time was last seen finishing third against restricted allowance company.
