On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, fillies and mares will take to the turf in the $60,000 Cooper City Handicap. Scheduled to be run at one mile on the lawn, the race has drawn a field of nine.
Eddie Kenneally will send out Kitty Wine as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2. A six-year-old daughter of Lemon Drop Kid, she has been training steadily for her first start of the year and will be trying to earn the first stakes win of her career. She has won three of her fourteen starts and was last seen finishing third in the South Beach Stakes at Gulfstream in December. Julian Leparoux will be aboard from post position eight.
Granny Mc's Kitten back in action
Second choice at 3-1 on the morning line is Granny Mc’s Kitten for trainer Chad Brown. Bred and owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, the four-year-old daughter of Kitten’s Joy has won two of her nine starts and is going for the second win of her career. She was last seen finishing fifth in the Tropical Park Oaks and has been training at Palm Meadows for her return to the races. Javier Castellano has the mount from post position four.
Blinkers back on for E B Ryder
Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is E B Ryder for trainer Martin Wolfson. A five-year-old daughter of Bluegrass Cat, she will get blinkers back on after competing without them last time out when she was sixth in the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf. She has won five times and the multiple stakes winner is scheduled to break from the rail under jockey John Velazquez for her second start of the year.
