Mitchell Friedman Has Loaded Entry for $100,000 Bay Ridge Stakes
On Wednesday, Aqueduct will close out the year with a pair of stakes races starting with the $100,000 Bay Ridge Stakes. Restricted to fillies and mares bred in New York, the mile and a sixteenth race has drawn a field of eleven entrants.
Carameaway and Dreaming of Cara are a coupled entry and favored at 3-1 on the morning line for trainer Mitchell Friendman. Dreaming of Cara has gone winless from twelve starts this year and has hit the board five times. The five-year-old bay mare will have Samuel Camacho, Jr. aboard. Carameaway, the stronger of the entry, has won three of her ten starts this year including a state-bred stakes race. She has had a bullet workout since her last race and will have Jeremy Rose in the irons.
Flipcup trying to rebound after Comely Stakes flop
Second choice at 7-2 on the morning line is Flipcup for trainer Bill Mott. A three-year-old daughter of Milwaukee Brew, she has been on the board in seven of her eight starts this year with her lone blemish coming last time out with a last-place finish in the Comely (G3). The consistent state-bred competitor has won four of her twelve starts and will have Junior Alvarado aboard for the first time from post position five.
Macho returning to the East Coast for Rodriguez
Also in the field at 4-1 on the morning line is Macha who will be making her first start for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. A four-year-old daughter of Majestic Warrior, the chestnut filly has been competing primarily on the West Coast with one unsuccessful trip east in May. She has hit the board against graded stakes competition and won three of her fifteen starts. Irad Ortiz, Jr. will be in the irons as she tries to secure her first career stakes win.
