On Saturday at Delta Downs, the featured race is the $75,000 Big Drama Stakes. Restricted to three-year-olds, the seven-furlong contest has drawn a field of six colts and geldings.
Headlining the field at morning line odds of 8-5 for trainer Tom Amoss is Control Stake, a three-year-old son of Discreetly Mine. The bay colt has been on the board in all five starts and is trying to earn his first stakes win after finishing third in the Sugar Bowl Stakes at Fair Grounds last time out in a field of four. Gerard Melancon will be back aboard and they are scheduled to break from post position three.
Lucky Stranger making stakes debut after maiden win
Tom Amoss will also saddle the second choice on the morning line, Lucky Stranger, at odds of 5-2. Purchased for $85,000 as a yearling from the first crop of champion Lookin at Lucky, the bay colt finished third in his debut. He came back to deliver sharply as the heavy favorite in his next start with a front-running romp over an off track. Colby Hernandez will be aboard from post position two as the colt makes his stakes debut.
His World stepping up first off the claim
Also in the field and a longshot at 15-1 is His World who will be making his first start for trainer Joseph Foster after being claimed out of his maiden victory last time out. A dark bay son of Quality Road purchased for $120,000 as a yearling, he was tenth in his debut at Churchill Downs and delivered as the favorite in for a $20,000 tag last time out. Diego Saenz will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
